DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – The 2022 Flow Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship in the Dominican Republic continues on Thursday with the start of the knockout round at the Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros.
The first semifinal will pit Jamaican side Waterhouse against Violette of Haiti. Waterhouse were runners-up in the 2014, 2019 and 2020 editions of the FCCCC, so they would like nothing more than a return to the Final and a chance to lift the trophy for a first time.
Waterhouse reached the final four by virtue of their 2-0 win against Arcahaie of Haiti and the 0-0 draw in their group stage finale versus Atletico Vega Real of the Dominican Republic.
After suffering an opening 3-0 loss to host club Cibao FC, Violette recovered nicely and earned a 3-2 win against Cavalier of Jamaica, which proved enough to book their spot in the semifinals. Elyvens Dejean has led the way with two goals for Violette.
The day’s second semifinal stands to be a thrilling duel of domestic rivals, as Dominican Republic sides Cibao FC and Atletico Vega Real will play for the other spot in the Final.
Cibao have had the most prolific attack in this tournament with six goals from six different scorers in their two games, including three goals in the second half of Tuesday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Cavalier.
Meanwhile, Atletico Vega Real have been stout in the back, conceding just one goal, which should only add more spice to what a fascinating semifinal is already.
