Inter Moengo Tapoe, Golden Lion set for CCCS showdown

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico – The group stage of the 2022 Concacaf Caribbean Shield (CCCS) in Puerto Rico wraps up on Tuesday with several key match-ups, including a showdown in Group C between Golden Lion FC of Martinique and Inter Moengo Tapoe of Suriname at the Estadio Centroamericano de Mayaguez in Mayaguez.

Inter Moengo Tapoe started off their tournament by rallying from a late 2-1 deficit to claim a 5-2 win over Deportivo Nacional of Aruba thanks in part to a pair of goals from Ronaldo Kemble.

Now, the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League participants will take on a Golden Lion side that is coming off an 8-0 win against Nacional on Sunday. The star performer was FW Kevin Parsemain, who scored five goals to add to his legendary status in Concacaf competition.

The former Martinique international, who has five career Concacaf Gold Cups goals, will be looking to lead his team into the next round.

In Group A at the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel in Bayamon, Junior Stars of Saint Martin will be out to score early and often against South East FC of Dominica.

Junior Stars not only need a win, but also a seven-goal victory in order to usurp host club Bayamon FC at the top of the group and reach the next phase of the tournament.

The two teams at the top of Group B, AS Gosier of Guadeloupe and Jong Holland of Curacao, will meet at the Estadio Centroamericano de Mayaguez in Mayaguez.

Both sides have six points through their first two matches and will be keen to finish the group stage with a perfect record. Jong Holland have the advantage on goal difference by four goals, so only a victory will suffice for AS Gosier to leave no doubt about their knockout round hopes.

Meanwhile, SWA Sharks FC of Turks and Caicos Islands and Real Rincon of Bonaire will each conclude their CCCS campaigns in the day’s other game in Group B.

CCCS debutants SWA Sharks are still looking for their first goal after back-to-back 1-0 defeats, while Real Rincon’s Isha Hughan will seek a return to the scoresheet after finding the back of the net in his team’s opening 2-1 loss to AS Gosier.
