MIAMI, Florida – The 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield in Saint Kitts and Nevis kicked off on Thursday with Jong Holland, Scholars International and Metropolitan all earning victories.
Curacao’s Jong Holland emerged with a 2-1 victory over Junior Stars of Saint Martin to open Group A play at Warner Park.
Kearney Chance gave Junior Stars a 1-0 lead in the 24’, but Jong Holland responded with the 1-1 equalizer right before halftime through Shurwendel Roosje.
Each side was keen for a winner and it came in the 71’ for Jong Holland, with Davidson Rosa tallying the decisive goal.
Scholars International of the Cayman Islands were also triumphant on the day in a 2-0 victory versus South East of Dominica at the SKNFA Technical Centre.
Raul Garcia opened the scoring in the 21’ on a tidy finish, followed by a left-footed shot for a goal in the 69’ by Kimani Finn.
Metropolitan of Puerto Rico got a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-0 win against St. Paul’s United of Saint Kitts and Nevis at the SKNFA Technical Centre.
The scoring started in the 55’ courtesy of Juan Soriano and was followed by a second goal just six minutes later in the 61’ from legendary striker Hector Ramos.
The former Puerto Rico Islanders, Isidro Metapan and Aguila man, who has four career Concacaf Champions Cup goals, scored to seal his team’s 2-0 triumph.
