MIAMI – Concacaf Champions Cup title holders CF Pachuca continue to reign as the number one team in the region in the latest Concacaf Club Rankings (CCR) update.

The Concacaf Club Rankings Index grades all clubs and leagues across the confederation. Teams gain points for results in official domestic league matches, regional cup matches, and Concacaf Champions Cup play.

Further details explaining the rankings and how clubs earn points can be found here: Concacaf launches new ranking system for region’s clubs and leagues.

Here are the top stories from the recent moves.

Champions Cup finalists Pachuca and Columbus Crew at the top

CF Pachuca (1,249 points) remains the region’s number one ranked club after winning the 2024 Champions Cup in June. The Tuzos jumped to first place for the first time this year following their sixth CCC conquest.

The Columbus Crew (1,246), runners-up in the Concacaf Champions Cup, are the second-place team in the rankings. The reigning MLS Cup winners have won six of nine since their appearance in the CCC Final.

Only three points separate the two finalists, with third-place Club America (1,244) two points behind Columbus. CF Monterrey (1,237) and Tigres UANL (1,231) round out the top five.

Seven of the ten highest-ranked teams are from Liga MX, with the other three being U.S.-based MLS clubs. From sixth to tenth, the rest of the top ten are CD Guadalajara (1,218), Los Angeles FC (1,214), Cruz Azul (1,211), Club Leon (1,210), and Inter Miami CF (1,210).

Central American Cup holders Alajuelense jumps into top three

LD Alajuelense (1,138), the defending Central American Cup champions, jumped into the top three in Central America. Deportivo Saprissa (1,155) and CD Olimpia (1,151) occupy the first and second spots, respectively.

CS Herediano (1,136) and CSD Municipal (1,121) comprise this category's top five. All of these clubs are part of the 20-team field set to compete at the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup, which kicks off on July 30.

Cibao FC leads the Caribbean ranking

Champions in the Dominican Republic, Cibao FC (1,055) is the highest-ranked team in the Caribbean region at 88th overall. Jamaican side Mount Pleasant FA (1,048) is second.

The 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup and Caribbean Shield champions SV Robinhood (1,042) of Suriname are third in the region. Cavalier FC (1,041) and Moca FC (1,028) finish the top five, giving Jamaica and the Dominican Republic two teams each.

The 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup begins its group stage on August 20.

Big leap for LA Galaxy after good results in MLS

The Los Angeles Galaxy (1,181) is one of the success stories of the 2024 MLS season. The club’s winning start to the season has translated into the most significant movers up the Concacaf rankings, up 10 spots to 18th overall.

The team has won eight of its last ten matches and is in first place in the Western Conference. If things continue this way, the 2000 Concacaf Champions Cup-winning club could return to the competition for the first time since the 2015-16 edition.

Chicago Fire win over Cincinnati FC is the biggest upset

MLS was the site of the biggest upset between Concacaf clubs as the 42nd overall Chicago Fire (1,155) defeated 13th place FC Cincinnati (1,193), a Round of 16 participant in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

The Chicago 1-0 victory came on the reigning MLS Supporters’ Shield winners’ home ground on July 17 as part of matchday 24 of the current season. The two clubs are separated in the rankings by 29 teams and a 38-point difference.
