MIAMI – The 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup saw more history written following the conclusion of the semifinals.

Columbus Crew advanced to its first ever final with a 5-2 win on aggregate over CF Monterrey. Five-time winners CF Pachuca secured its return to a final with a 3-2 win on aggregate over Club America.

Here are some interesting facts and figures after the second leg matches in the semifinals.

Two for two

Columbus Crew won both legs of its first semifinal series against CF Monterrey. In doing so they began its first semifinals appearance with a 2-0-0 record.

The MLS champions also became the first club from its league to win consecutively against Liga MX clubs without losing the second leg away, eliminating Tigres UANL on penalties in the quarterfinals.

Offensive leaders

CF Pachuca feature a few of the best offensive performers of the Champions Cup. Salomon Rondon leads the Golden Boot race with seven goals while Oussama Idrissi is the co-leader in assists this campaign.

Rondon has had the most goal scoring opportunities with 19 and the most goals from open play with six. Idrissi has the most shots on target with ten.

As a team, Pachuca has the most the most goals from open play and collective assists with 14 in each category. The Tuzos have also generated the most shots on target with 45.

Recovery SpecialistΒ 

Columbus Crew midfielder Aidan Morris leads all players with 17 balls recovered. Morris intercepted a ball that led to the series-winning goal prior to halftime in the second leg against Monterrey.

The Crew have the most ball recoveries as a team with 106 total.

Saves by Schulte

Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte leads all goalkeepers with 30 saves in the campaign.

Half of those saves came in the semifinals. Schulte provided five saves at home in the first leg and was pivotal with 10 saves on the road in the second leg.

A dozen goals

A total of 12 goals were scored in the semifinals of the CCC 2024, the same number as in the 2023 edition and the 2016/17 edition. For the first time since the 2009/10 semifinals, three goals were scored via headers.

Goal providers

Mexican players account for 42 of the 169 goals (25%) in the history of the semifinals since the tournament format changed in 2008/09. Argentine footballers have scored 21% of the total with 35 goals.

Jacen Russell-Rowe of Columbus Crew scored in both legs. The last time two goals in the semifinals came from Canadian players was 2018 (Ashtone Morgan and Jonathan Osorio).

159 goals and counting

A total of 159 goals have been scored in the 50 matches of the current edition. It marks the highest goal count since 2016/17, when 197 goals were scored in 62 matches, reaching the same scoring average (3.2) and the highest of the last nine tournaments.

Seventh Final

The final between CF Pachuca and Columbus Crew will be the seventh between Mexican and U.S. teams in the history of the competition.
