GUATEMALA CITY -- After an achievement-filled career, former Comunicaciones and Guatemala star Dwight Pezzarossi will be honored with a farewell match on July 28 at the Estadio Mateo Flores.  The ceremony will be part of the third Luis Grill Prieto Trophy game against Costa Rica’s Saprissa.

The 33-year-old, who announced his retirement in February, officially hung up his boots after the 2013 Guatemalan Clausura, when the ‘Cremas’ once again claimed the championship.

Pezzarossi made his Comunicaciones debut at just 16-years-old and had five different stints with the club.  He also spent a season in the Guatemalan league with Marquense, where he featured in 21 matches and scored nine goals.

In addition to his time in domestic football, Pezzarossi enjoyed success abroad, notably in Chile, with Santiago Wanderers, Palestino and later with La Serena.  He also played for Argentinos Juniors (Argentina), Racing Ferrol and Numancia (both Spain).

Pezzarossi was capped 59 times for the national team and tallied 15 goals, including eight in 27 World Cup Qualifying games. He netted twice in Guatemala’s run to the 2001 Central American championship.  His final appearance with the ‘Bicolor’ was in October 2012 against the United States in a World Cup qualifier for Brazil 2014.

Comunicaciones is participating in this season’s CONCACAF Champions League,  It will face Mexico’s Toluca and Caledonia AIA of Trinidad & Tobago in Group 6 play.
