Pachuca defeats Columbus Crew for sixth Concacaf Champions Cup

PACHUCA, Mexico – CF Pachuca took a 3-0 victory over Columbus Crew to win the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Final on Saturday night at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico.

Pachuca goalkeeper Carlos Moreno earned his first save 15 seconds into the encounter to deny Diego Rossi, as the visitors looked to strike first.

Salomon Rondon scored the opening goal with a chipped ball in the 12’ to get past Columbus goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. Nelson Deossa provided the through ball to set up the Venezuelan striker.

Juan Camilo Hernandez had a close hit in the 31’ but his attempt went just beside the outside of the right post.

Emilio Rodriguez extended the lead for the home side in the 32’ with a left-footed strike inside the box on a breakaway. Erick Sanchez helped the play develop and provided the assist.

Patrick Schulte denied Emilio Rodriguez in the 51’ as the hosts searched for another goal to extend their lead.

Schulte came up with back-to-back saves in the 58’, first to deny a long distance hit from Erick Sanchez and then to stop Bryan Gonzalez on the rebound.

Oussama Idrissi helped engineer a third goal for Pachuca, driving through the left side of the field to find Rondon near the penalty marker in the 67’. The brace extended Rondon’s Golden Boot total to nine goals.

Jacen Russell-Rowe, a second half substitute, was denied by the top post in the 77’ as Carlos Moreno would go on to collect his fourth clean sheet of the tournament.

Pachuca lifted the Concacaf Champions Cup for a sixth occasion and maintained a perfect streak of winning each of its trips to the finals. The victory also extended Pachuca’s unbeaten streak to 31 matches when playing in home CCC encounters.
