MIAMI, Florida – The 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League is complete, marking the end of a tournament in which there were a number of top performances. Here are the ones who stood out the most at their respective position throughout the 2022 SCL.
GK Leonel Moreira, Alajuelense – Moreira appeared in seven of the club’s matches during the tournament, conceding just six goals, making 17 saves and 19 clearances, while registering four clean sheets to earn Best Goalkeeper honors for the second time in his career.
DF Carlos Sanchez, Olimpia – The left back will forever live as an Olimpia hero for his series-winning goal in the 1-0 victory against Motagua in the semifinals. Sanchez finished the tournament with six games played in which he had six steals and four clearances.
DF Giancarlo Gonzalez, Alajuelense – Gonzalez was a force at both ends, with two goals to go along with an astounding 28 clearances made in six games.
DF Jose Garcia, Olimpia – Garcia was a force as well on the ground and in the air. The Olimpia defender made 33 clearances and had eight steals, while also showing off his passing acumen with 91 percent of passes completed.
DF Maylor Nunez, Olimpia – Olimpia’s defense were always in good hands with Nunez on the field. He totaled 12 steals and 21 clearances in eight games for the champions.
MF Celso Borges, Alajuelense – The veteran midfielder was at his very best in the 2022 SCL in the nine games he played. Borges had a goal and an assist, plus six steals and four clearances.
MF Jose Pinto, Olimpia – Pinto added a massive attacking spark, especially in the Final in which he scored a goal in each leg. He also had an assist and completed almost 85 percent of his passes.
MF Aaron Suarez, Alajuelense – The 20-year-old Youth Revelation Award winner played in nine of the Costa Rican club’s matches in the tournament, starting seven and scoring three goals, including a spectacular free kick in Wednesday’s Final second leg.
MF Michaell Chirinos, Olimpia – Chirinos took home SCL Best Player Award honors for a second time after featuring in eight matches for the Honduran club, starting five and scoring three goals. He also had four assists and completed almost 89 percent of his passes to finish as the top ranked midfielder in the competition.
FW Ramiro Rocca, Real Espana – The Argentine FW and winner of the Top Goal Scorer Award scored six goals in eight games to help lead the Honduran side to a semifinal finish and a berth in the 2023 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League.
FW Johan Venegas, Alajuelense – The all-time top scorer in SCL history added another three goals to his tally in eight games played. Venegas also showed off his playmaking side, generating two assists.
