MIAMI – The action in women's football goes far beyond 90 minutes, and the teams of the Liga MX Femenil understand what that means. Taking in the pressure of just three weeks into the Torneo de Clausura, all of them are fighting to get to the top position in the table.

On Saturday afternoon, Mexico City team Cruz Azul won their first match of the season, downing Atletico de San Luis, 3-0. The first goal of the match was scored by Ana Gabriela Lozada in the 29’ when she received the ball on the goal-line and easily pushed it home to open the scoring for La Maquina.

The team kept fighting and their hard work paid off in the 70’ when Alexia Delgado, on a second attempt, sent the ball to the back of the net. The third and final one of the day for Cruz Azul was a header from a corner kick by Claudia Cid in the 80’. With this win, La Maquina now sits in eight place, a Liguilla position.

Club America claimed another victory in the Clausura 2023 at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday afternoon, winning 5-0 over Tijuana. Scarlett Camberos started the scoring for the Aguilas in the 2’ when she intercepted a pass and fired into goal once she got to the area. In the 22’, Adyson Willet scored an own goal, expanding Club America’s advantage.

Aurelie Kaci gave the third goal to her team, scoring from outside the box in the 47’. The fourth and fifth goals of the day came from the boots of Kiana Palacios, who now is the second top scorer of the season so far. With this win, Club America now has two consecutive wins at the Coloso de Santa Ursula.

Monday proved to be a great day for some teams, the first one being Queretaro, who clinched their first three points of the season on Monday afternoon while visiting Toluca, defeating Las Diablas 1-0. The author of the goal that gave the Gallos Femenil their first victory was Fatima Delgado, who in the 16’ received a ball that teammate Fabiola Santamaria stole from Toluca’s defense, allowing Delgado to find the back of the net.

Another team that celebrated their first win of the season was Pumas, who topped Club Leon 3-0 on Monday afternoon at the Nou Camp Stadium. The first goal of the match arrived in the 39’, when Paola Chavero drove the ball up to the scoring area and found Gabi Juarez, who scored a header to put Pumas up in the game.

Pumas kept attacking, but it wasn’t until the 67’ when Stephanie Ribeiro scored the second one, off an assist from Natalia Macias. The third and final goal came in the 90 '+ 6, with Ribeiro scoring her second goal of the day, minutes before the referee marked the end of the match.
