MIAMI, Florida – This past week, the summer transfer window in Europe closed, with many moves happening around the most important leagues.
Players from different national teams in Concacaf have new homes now, already training to show their skills and prove how much of a game-changer they can be.
Serie A in Italy already knows Concacaf talent, as Canadian MF Julia Grosso from Juventus was named midfielder of the past season. This year, one of the stars of Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup landed in the capital city, as DF Allyson Swaby signed with AC Milan until 2026.
The English Women’s Super League was the last to close their transfer window with crucial deadline signings for many teams. Liga MX Femenil sensation FW Mia Fishel of the United States was one of the most exciting names to arrive in London, as she signed with the current Champions, Chelsea FC.
Alongside Fishel, compatriot Catarina Macario and Canadian DF Ashley Lawrence were also included in the squad; the Blues sending a clear message of wanting to defend their title and compete at the highest level in any tournament.
Canadian FW Cloe Lacasse will face these new Chelsea signings, as she joined Arsenal at the beginning of the summer after her exceptional run in Portugal, reinforcing the Gunners squad to fight for every title.
Another last-minute signing in England was made by Manchester United when they announced that New York native GK Phallon Tullis-Joyce would join their team after her time in NWSL side OL Reign. Tullis-Joyce will be joining Canadian DF Jayde Riviere to get to the top of the table.
FW Melchie Dumornay from the Haitian Women’s National Team has been a name that has been followed since her debut. This season, she will be part of one of the best teams in the world, Olympique Lyonnais, already showing why she is one of the most important signings of the year, joining USWNT captain Lindsey Horan, who has been a key member of the French squad for the past several seasons.
Dumornay will compete against Panama MF Aldrith Quintero, who joined FC Fleury 91 Féminines, just before Las Canaleras left to participate in their first Women’s World Cup in the summer. Quintero will join Jamaican DF Chantelle Swaby, as she is also key member of the Fleury squad.
Finally, just days before Jamaica started to write history at the Women’s World Cup, FW Kayla McKenna signed with Spanish team Villarreal from the Liga F, adding depth and power to their team, ready to compete against some of the best in the world.
These moves and more from some of the top women’s players in Concacaf should make for an exciting European campaign.
