MIAMI, Florida – Generational talent can be found anywhere and Haiti has produced a player that is quickly becoming one of the world’s best and has just been recognized in France with a top individual honor. Haiti MF Melchie Dumornay, current player of Stade de Reims and recently acquired by domestic and European champions, Olympique Lyonnais, was awarded the “Revelation of the Season” award of France’s Division 1 Feminine.

This past Monday the awards for the top players of the D1 were given out to celebrate the end of the season. A lot of categories were present in these awards, “Revelation of the Season” being one of the most important ones, as it recognizes the player that will help carry the future of the League.

The 19-year-old Dumornay was the grand winner of the evening, receiving this honor after her great season in France with Reims. The number 10 of the Haiti Women’s National team scored five goals in seven games, being a force on the field.

It wasn’t the first time Dumornay shined with her soon to be former team, as she was also awarded with a “Player of the Month” distinction last season. Her effectiveness in front of goal and her promise to continue developing as an even better player did not go unnoticed by one of the best clubs in France, Europe and the world.

In January of 2023 it was announced that Olympique Lyonnais, current French and European champions, signed Dumornay. Next season will be her first in Lyon and no doubt everyone will be waiting to see her talent come through in her new jersey.

This year has not only been great on a club level for Dumornay, as she also made history with her National Team. In February, she led Haiti to the final stages of the Intercontinental Playoffs that would determine the last countries to participate in this summer's FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.

With three tickets left for the World Cup, Dumornay and Les Grenadieres made history. After downing Senegal and Chile, the Haiti Women’s National Team qualified for their first ever World Cup, becoming the second Caribbean nation to do so, after Jamaica.

The eyes of the world will be watching Dumornay later this year at Australia / New Zealand, eager to see how France’s Revelation of the Season” will perform with her National Team on the biggest stage and offer a glimpse on what is coming to Lyon next season.
