Khadija Shaw named part of the PFA Team of the Year

Khadija Shaw was named part of the Professional Footballers’ Association WSL team of the year for her performance last season.

MIAMI, Florida – After being a key player for the Jamaican Women’s National Team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, captain and FW Khadija Shaw was named part of the Professional Footballers’ Association WSL team of the year for her performance last season with Manchester City.

Back in May, Shaw received the award for Player of the Season from Manchester City, breaking a record of the most goals scored in a natural season, with 31 goals among all tournaments she participated.

Shaw also got some silverware thanks to her technique on the pitch, as one of those 31 goals was chosen as Goal of the Season from the club followers, who also praised her renewal to stay in Manchester, as she will be wearing the sky blue jersey until 2026.

With this recognition from the football community, Shaw faced the biggest tournament to date for Jamaica, writing history for her country as the Reggae Girlz reached the Round of 16 for the first time ever, being the first Caribbean nation to do so.

Due to all her achievements, Shaw was named in the Team of the Year from the Professional Footballers’ Association that took into account all players in the Women’s Super League, England women’s first division.

She was the only player from Concacaf in that list, showing the visibility she has in football every time she plays in the WSL or on any other international stage.

Shaw will display her talents for Jamaica later this month when they welcome Canada, the current Olympic champions, on September 22 in the first leg of the Olympic Play-In, as Jamaica are looking to qualify for their first Olympic Games for France 2024.

With the season about to start for her and her fellow Citizens, their goal is clear: be one of the best teams in the WSL and finish at the top of the table, allowing them to go back to European competitions.
