MIAMI, Florida – Players look to be game-changers in every match, no matter where they are, and Panama international MF Aldrith Quintero has been revolutionary on the pitch in Spain for several years now, most recently with her new team Alhama of the Liga F.
The 21-year-old arrived at her new club in the winter transfer window this past December, after being a key part of second-tier team UDG Tenerife, which was her first experience playing in Europe.
She also played a big part for a club based in Panama. She was part of the squad of Tauro FC, in which she won her first domestic title, helping the team get their third championship. With this silverware under her arm, she flew back to Europe to be a game-changer once again, this time in the top category of women’s football in Spain.
Alhama CF signed Quintero in 2022, looking to reinforce their squad and fight with some of the biggest clubs in the country, and the Panamanian hasn’t disappointed, both in the league and in the Copa de la Reina. Thanks to a goal from Quintero in the 20th minute of the quarterfinal, Alhama FC is going to play the Final Four of the Copa, giving Alhama the opportunity to fight for their biggest trophy yet.
This will be no easy task, since the four teams remaining, including Alhama FC, will give everything on the pitch to fight to get to the Final. All the squads are full of international stars, Quintero being one of them, as she is part of the National Women’s Team of Panama.
She has been a Canalera since a very young age, always showing her talent from early on. In 2018, she appeared in five matches of that year’s Concacaf Women’s Championship. But this would not be her most important participation with her National Team. She also was part of the team that managed to get a ticket to the Intercontinental Playoffs to fight for one of the three spots remaining for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand.
In February of the current year, she and the rest of the Panama squad flew to New Zealand to prove why they are a rising power in Concacaf, and they delivered. Placed in Group C, Las Canaleras first faced Papua New Guinea, and after winning 2-0, they had 90 minutes left to make history, this time against Paraguay. They won 1-0, qualifying for the first time into the biggest tournament in women’s football.
Quintero will have a few exciting months ahead, with all the fans from Alhama and Spain having their eyes on her to see if she can change the game again and qualify for the Final of Copa de la Reina, and then having the chance to represent Panama at the World Cup later this summer.
