MIAMI – Fans are still buzzing about what happened in the international competitions for women’s football around the world this summer. Jamaica’s name was one of the protagonists, earning third place at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Reggae Girlz made history once again at the CWC, not only getting third place, but qualifying to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be played in Australia/New Zealand. Jamaica is the first Caribbean nation to do it back-to-back. Both times, Khadija Shaw was part of the squad that made it possible.

Fresh off the CWC, Shaw flew back to England to prepare for the challenging season ahead for her and the Sky Blues of Manchester City.

Manchester City's preseason was against teams from the Barclay’s Women's Super League. They played a total of four games, scoring eight goals. Shaw was part of this stage, always ready to help her team push further.

The first test of the 2022-2023 season for Shaw and The Citizens were the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The first match of Round 1 was a great start for Shaw and her team, playing against the Kazakhstan side Tomiris-Turan. Manchester City scored a total of six goals, two of them coming from Shaw.

The next match was against a team that they were familiar with, Real Madrid. The Spanish side were the opponents of City the previous year, denying them access to the Group Stage.

The teams entered the pitch ready to take the spot for Round 2. It was a hard fought match, in which Shaw was part of the starting XI for Manchester City. She created scoring chances and contributed in many ways, but the match ended 1-0 to Real Madrid, causing Manchester City to exit the tournament.

Next up for Shaw and the Citizens will be their debut in the English Women’s Super League, where they will face Arsenal in their opening game in September. Last year, Manchester City finished the season in third place, making this start of the tournament a perfect opportunity to continue to grow and show what players like Shaw are ready to bring to the field all year long.
