Tigres UANL are the Champions of the Apertura 2023 of the Liga MX Femenil after defeating Club America in the Final.

MIAMI, Florida – Tigres UANL are the Champions of the Apertura 2023 of the Liga MX Femenil after defeating Club America in the Final on Friday at the Estadio Azteca and Monday at the Estadio Universitario, with an aggregate score of 3-0.

With this new championship, Las Amazonas got their sixth title and are the most decorated team in the history of the Liga MX Femenil.

The expectations were high, as Las Aguilas were starting the final defending their title at the Estadio Azteca, with fans from many parts of the country traveling to witness the most anticipated game of the season.

Both teams started strong, the first goal arriving in the 10’ for Tigres from FW Stephany Mayor, who was in the area when a ball was rebounded, allowing her to fire it into the back of the net.

Las Amazonas wanted to extend their advantage and managed to do so in the 26’ when regular season Golden Boot winner and FW Maricamen Reyes controlled the ball right outside the area with a first touch and sent a volley past GK Itzel Gonzalez.

The hosts kept fighting to pull one back, but the defensive line of Tigres didn’t give them any space. Las Amazonas stunned again in the 58’ when MF Belen Cruz scored the third one of the evenings when Gonzalez fumbled the ball in the área and Cruz scored, giving Tigres a healthy three-goal advantage for the second game.

On Monday evening, 38,493 fans attended the Estadio Universitario to witness either a major comeback or watch their team crown themselves as Champions. Both teams started with high spirits, with Club America attacking to get a goal as soon as possible, but Tigres GK Cecilia Santiago denied everything that came her way, becoming the MVP of the match.

Las Aguilas kept trying until the final whistle, unable to equalize the score, the game ending in a 0-0 draw. With this result, Tigres became the Champions of the Apertura 2023, getting their sixth star.
