What’s at stake in the Canada-Jamaica Olympic Play-In

After a thrilling summer, Canada and Jamaica are back in camp preparing for their next big test in the Concacaf Olympic Play-In

MIAMI, Florida – After a thrilling summer, the national teams of Canada and Jamaica are back in camp preparing for their next big test in the Concacaf Olympic Play-In after finishing second and third, respectively, in the 2022 Concacaf W Championship.

Yet not only is a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics on the line, but also the winner will secure a place in the 2024 W Gold Cup, while the loser will be slotted into Group B of League A of the Road to Concacaf W Gold Cup with a chance to still qualify for the inaugural W Gold Cup.

The first leg will be played on Friday at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica. BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, will hold the second and final match of this play-in on Tuesday, September 26.

This will be the first time that the last Olympic spot from Concacaf will be decided in both National Team’s countries, giving fans the chance to support their teams in what is one of the most important games of the year.

The Canadian Women’s National Team, two-time Bronze medalists (London 2012, Rio 2016) and current Olympic Champions (Tokyo 2020) have everything to play for. They will take to the field looking for that last spot after finishing as runners-up in the 2022 CWC.

This summer, at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Canada left the competition in the group stage, making this play-in one of the biggest matches for them this year, as they still have the squad and depth to show why they are the reigning Olympic champions.

The Reggae Girlz are not done writing history. Finishing third in the 2022 CWC and going through to the Round of 16 in the Women’s World Cup for the first time in history, Jamaica will fight to try to become the first Caribbean nation to qualify to the Olympic Games.

Jamaica showed how much their football has grown over the last several years, positioning themselves as one of the best national teams in Concacaf. This time, they will have their crowd support, playing at home for the first time to qualify for their first Olympics.
