Draw to take place March 16 in San Jose -- Media Accreditation Open

Miami (Tuesday, March 8, 2016) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) confirmed today the programming for the official draw for the CONCACAF Futsal Championship Costa Rica 2016.

The draw will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 12:30 PM local time (2:30 PM ET). The event will be conducted at the Hotel Barceló San José Palacio and will be streamed live via CONCACAF.com.

Six of the eight participating sides – Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama from the UNCAF region, Cuba and Curacao from the Caribbean, and Mexico from North America -- have now been determined. The final two spots will be decided by two play-in series at the tournament site in the days leading up to the championship, with Canada facing the United States and Honduras taking on Trinidad & Tobago.

Each pairing of nations in the dual play-in series will dispute two matches against one another -- one on the 5th of May and one more the following day on the 6th -- with the teams emerging victorious by virtue of aggregate goals rounding out the field for the tournament. The Championship is scheduled to be played at the BN Arena from May 8-14, 2016.

The draw will sort the eight Participating Member Associations – including the two teams still to be determined – set to participate in the championship into two groups of four teams for the tournament.

In addition to crowning the Confederation's champion in this discipline, the CONCACAF Futsal Championship will qualify four teams to the FIFA Futsal World Cup, to be played in Colombia later this year.

Costa Rica is the defending champion of the CONCACAF Futsal Championship, having won the title in Guatemala in July 2012.
