GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - Costa Rica and Guatemala are on their way to the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania thanks to their respective victories in the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship quarterfinals on Friday at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Defending CFC champions Costa Rica qualified for their fifth World Cup with a strong 12-1 victory over Suriname.
Both Emmanuel Gamboa and Pablo Rodriguez notched hat tricks, Juan Cordero bagged a brace and Edwin Cubillo, Victor Fonseca and Minor Cabalceta added scores, in addition to a Suriname own goal. Murgillio Esajas tallied the lone goal for Suriname.
Costa Rica also advances to the 2021 CFC semifinals where they will face Panama.

In the nightcap, host nation Guatemala narrowly defeated El Salvador 4-3 in a penalty shootout following a wild 3-3 draw between the two teams.
El Salvador jumped out to a 2-0 lead through Rodrigo Contreras and Erick Martinez, before Guatemala pulled level with goals from Jose Mansilla Ramos and Roberto Alvarado. In the second frame of extra time, Guatemala took a 3-2 lead on Alvarado’s second of the night, but El Salvador struck back courtesy of David Sandoval.
Matters had to be settled in a penalty shootout and the Chapines would come out on top to reach their fourth World Cup.
Next up for Guatemala is a semifinal date with the United States.
