HARRISON, New Jersey- For Bermuda, reaching the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup was an objective. To learn from the experience will help build the program and achieve goals down the line however, each match meant showcasing what Bermuda is made of, as it fought to 2-1 losses against Haiti and Costa Rica.
“We will be pleased if we can get something out of tomorrow,” said head coach Kyle Lightbourne ahead of Bermuda’s Group B final versus Nicaragua.
“We know it’s going to be a close game; we have to play to the standards that we have been playing. We don’t give up; we keep going, that is why we are here. We are the new team to this tournament. That’s the beauty of this game, you get to play many different styles of football, and you have to respect Nicaragua for what they bring.”
Bermuda, who faces Nicaragua on Monday night at Red Bull Arena, is well aware that both teams are searching for their first win in the 2019 Gold Cup.
For Bermuda, this opportunity is one that will be special as it closes out its run in its Gold Cup debut in front of family members who will be present at the stadium.
“We are calling ourselves the Golden Generation; we have a lot of people coming from Bermuda so it would be a special feeling for us to close out with a win,” said captain Dante Leverock.
“We want to be able to tell the world that we don’t want to just participate, but also compete and this won’t be the last time that you see us,” concluded Leverock
