CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Despite defeats in its first two matches of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, Cuba’s spirits are still high heading into its Group A finale versus Canada on Sunday.
“The boys are well rested, they have had good training, I think spirits are good and just because we have had two losses doesn’t mean we are going to get down,” said Mederos in his pre-match press conference.
“We are working and preparing well to play a good game tomorrow,” added Mederos.
Mederos also highlighted the fact that the Gold Cup has offered a chance to do intensive training and work with his players.
“You can always get something from experience. We are doing an analysis with the boys. We are working on game situations in which we have been scored on. We have been working on this coverage but nevertheless we have to keep enforcing it in order to improve,” said Mederos.
Up next for Mederos and his men is a tough task against a Canada team that has scored five goals in its two games.
Mederos is confident that it will put together a good strategy to keep the Canadians at bay.
“I still have not had a chance to watch Canada. We are going to do it tonight. I think they are a great team, they have many interesting players, they have an experienced midfield, they attack with several players, those are their strengths. Tonight, we will study them and how we want to set up and tomorrow morning we’ll put together a final strategy. They are a team with players up top that can incorporate into the center of attack, so we’ll have to be wary there and so we’ll work on that,” concluded Mederos.
