LOS ANGELES, California – The 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup witnessed record-setting performances and history-making displays both at the individual and team levels.
From a tournament perspective, 129 goals were scored over the course of the 40 matches for an average of 3.23 goals per game. Twenty-four goals were scored in the Prelims, followed by 88 in the group stage and then 17 in the knockout stage. By position, it was no surprise to see that forwards led the way with 73 goals, followed by midfielders (33) and defenders (15).
A total of 80 assists were contributed during the tournament, and more scores were found in the second half (72) of games than the first half (53), while another four goals came in extra time.
Goalkeepers were once again figures in the Gold Cup, with 21 clean sheets being recorded and 250 saves made. There were also three scoreless draws among the 40 matches.
On an individual level, in addition to USA FW Jesus Ferreira winning the Top Scorer Award with seven goals, Mexico GK Guillermo Ochoa claiming the Best GK Award and Panama MF Adalberto Carrasquilla earning the Best Player Award, other players led very important categories.

Joel Campbell (CRC), Eric Davis (PAN) and Jesus Gallardo (MEX) tied for most assists (3), Mexico’s Uriel Antuna had the most shots on target (12), Andres Andrade of Panama had the most passes (427), Costa Rica GK Kevin Chamorro registered the most saves (21) and Carrasquilla drew the most fouls (17).
At the team level, the U.S. led the way in goals scored (16) and assists (11), while Mexico created the most scoring chances (111) and had the most shots on target (68) and most corner kicks (36).
Panama scored the most goals via header (5) and had the most ball recoveries (87), while champions Mexico drew the most fouls (86).
There were also some notable achievements from Mexico in their 1-0 win over Panama in the Final.
It was the third consecutive Gold Cup Final to have ended in a 1-0 scoreline and the sixth overall. The victory also served as Mexico’s 50th clean sheet in a Gold Cup, while Santiago Gimenez became the 18th Mexican player to score in a Gold Cup Final.
Mexico have now scored in 10 of the 11 Gold Cup Finals in which they have played and have scored 23 goals in Gold Cup Finals, accounting for 62 percent of Gold Cup Final goals.
Head Coach Jaime Lozano also became the sixth different Mexican coach to win the Gold Cup, following in the footsteps of Miguel Mejia Baron (1993), Manuel Lapuente (1998), Javier Aguirre (2009), Jose Manuel de la Torre (2011) and Miguel Herrera (2015).
