Team Profile

Cuba is one of the founding members of Concacaf, with the Football Association of Cuba joining in 1961.

Their history with the sport, however, stretches back to even before the confederation’s founding, with the men’s national team taking part in the 1938 FIFA World Cup in France.

More recently, the men’s national team has enjoyed success in the Concacaf Gold Cup, playing in nine of the last 13 continental championships and landing in the quarterfinals of the 2003, 2013 and 2015 competitions. Cuba also won the Caribbean Cup in 2012.

Despite this recent success, Cuba struggled to find its level in the first-ever Nations League, falling from League A to League B, but will look to get back to the top rung quickly in the new Nations League campaign.

Cuba’s senior women’s national team took part in the group stage of the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship, with eventual World Cup qualifiers Canada and Jamaica topping the group, but will look to become a fixture at the W Championship.

Cuba also has been among the class of the Caribbean in futsal, making it to the FIFA Futsal World Cup on five occasions, most recently in 2016. While a Concacaf championship always has been just out of reach on the futsal court, Cuba has finished as the runner-up four times.
