Team Profile

A founding member of Concacaf in 1961, the National Football Federation of Guatemala long has provided an important voice to the region.

The senior men’s national team rolled through its group in League C of the Concacaf Nations League after not participating in qualification, beating group rivals Puerto Rico and Anguilla both home and away with an impressive 25-0 goal difference, and now will look to do the same in League B to try to arrive at the pinnacle of the competition.

Los Chapines are still seeking its first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup, but have seen success in the continental championship.

Prior to the Concacaf Gold Cup era, Guatemala won the Concacaf Championship in 1967 and finished second in 1965 and 1989. Its best Gold Cup finish is 1996’s Fourth Place finish, though they also have remarkable consistency with 11 overall appearances.

The women’s senior national team has been at four of the last seven Concacaf W Championship tournaments and with many players now playing outside the country in top leagues, they will be working to get back and also begin a trend of W Gold Cup showings as well.

Guatemala excels indoors as well, making the last four FIFA Futsal World Cups and winning the Concacaf title in 2008.
