Team Profile
With a storied history and a bright future, Mexico was one of the founding members of Concacaf and remains an important member thanks to its success on the field and its passion for the game off it.
The men’s national team boasts eight Concacaf Gold Cup titles, has twice landed in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup, won the 2015 Concacaf Cup and finished as runner-up of the inaugural edition Concacaf Nations League after a perfect group stage.
The team also has represented Concacaf proudly in other international competitions, winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and conquering the 1999 Confederations Cup final.
The women’s game in Mexico is seeing growth as well, with the Liga MX Femenil providing a strong base of players for a national team that twice was runner-up of the Concacaf Women’s Championship with three World Cup appearances. The Women’s U-17 team made the 2018 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup final in Uruguay under the leadership of Monica Vergara.
At the club level, teams in Liga MX, Mexico’s top league, have historically enjoyed great success, winning each edition of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League in its current forma. Monterrey leads the way with four titles in the SCCL era, while Club America has won seven club championships, counting the Concacaf Champions’ Cup and the modern competition.
