MEXICO CITY - Erick Torres has returned to Liga MX after completing a transfer to Pumas from Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old forward was Houston's top scorer in 2017 MLS play, netting 14 goals in 27 regular-season games.
"With [Erick] we have options," said UNAM head coach David Patiño. "We have a substitute that has goal-scoring characteristics and has shown that in the clubs in which he has been.
"It is very important to have a substitute, who meets the profile of what we needed: Mexican, goal-scorer and can either substitute or play with Nico (forward Nicolas Castillo)."
Torres started his career with Guadalajara in 2010, before loaned in 2013 to Chivas USA (44 games/22 goals). After Chivas USA was disbanded in 2014, the Dynamo purchased his contract and loaned him back to Guadalajara. In all, Torres scored 14 goals in 49 games for Houston, which loaned him to Cruz Azul for a short stint in 2016.
With Mexico, Torres has earned seven caps, including a pair in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. His only goal came in a 1-0 win over Panama on October 12, 2014.
