Canada edged by Angola on late goal

BRASILIA, Brazil A late goal for Angola handed Canada a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday in Group A action at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup at the Estadio Bezerrao in Brasilia.

Ambrosini Salvador put the Angolans in front 1-0 in the 31’ when he met a long ball into the area with a header that got past Canada GK Marc Kouadio and rolled into goal.

Yet Canada welcomed the challenge of finding an equalizer and Jacen Russell-Rowe scored his second goal of the 2019 Under-17 World Cup in the 49’ when he gathered a pass and split the two Angolan center backs before firing home a right-footed shot to make it a 1-1 contest.

Both teams were keen to find the winner to secure a precious three points, yet it looked as if a decisive goal would not come.

However, that all changed in the 90+4’ when the Canadian defense was unable to clear a deep free kick in the area and Salvador played a pass back to David Nzanzi, who stroked home the shot to give Angola the dramatic 2-1 victory.

Canada will conclude their group stage campaign on Friday against New Zealand.
