CONCACAF Under-17 Championship starts Friday

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras – The 17th edition of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship opens Friday in Honduras with a tripleheader involving each of the six Group A teams. 

Friday – February 27, 2015

Guatemala v Trinidad & Tobago, 3:30 p.m. ET

USA v Cuba, 6:00 p.m. ET

Honduras v Jamaica, 8:30 p.m. ET 

Group B -- consisting of Canada, Costa Rica, Haiti, defending champion Mexico, Panama and St. Lucia -- will start play on Saturday. 

The tournament will crown the Confederation champion at this age level, and qualify four teams to the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.  The group winners earn tickets to the World Cup, while the other two representatives will be determined by through a pair of single-game playoffs. 

In order to favor development and competition, a newly implemented format has increased the number of guaranteed games from two to five for each competing nation. 

All Group A matches will be contested at the Estadio Francisco Morazan, while the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano will be the venue for Group B and final phase matches.
