BRADENTON, Florida – Costa Rica concluded its 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championship on a high note with a 6-1 victory over Bermuda on Friday.
Both Priscilla Chinchilla and Maria Paula Salas bagged braces for the Ticas.
With the result, Costa Rica finishes in third place in Group B with a 1W-0D-2L record, while Bermuda completes the tournament with a 0-0-3 record.
Carmen Marin gave the Central Americans a 1-0 lead in the 13’ after collecting a back pass from Gipzy Prieto and firing in past Bermuda GK Gaiya Melakot.
Chinchilla doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 21’ with a header that floated over the head of Melakot and into goal.
That was followed by a Salas free kick in the 39’ that tucked inside the near post for a 3-0 advantage.
Costa Rica continued the momentum into the second half thanks to a strong finish from Chinchilla in the 54’ to increase the lead to 4-0.
A Salas header in the 90’ gave Costa Rica a 5-0 lead, but Jadae Hill pulled one back for Bermuda with a well-struck free kick in the 90+4’ to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Costa Rica would then complete the 6-1 scoreline via a Daniela Contreras penalty conversion in the 90+8’.
