History of U.S., Canada and Mexico at the U-17 Women's World Cup

BRADENTON, Florida - The United States, Mexico and Canada will all represent the CONCACAF region at the FIFA 2018 Under-17 Women's World Cup in Uruguay this November.

Let's take a look back at the participations of the three teams at previous Under-17 Women's World Cups.

USA

Of the five CONCACAF nations ever to appear at a U-17 Women's World Cup (U.S., Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago), the U.S. is the only team to have advanced past the quarterfinal stage when they reached the final in the inaugural U-17 Women's World Cup in 2008 in New Zealand.

After finishing second to Japan in Group C, the U.S. defeated South Korea 4-2 in the quarterfinals and Germany 2-1 in the semifinals before falling to North Korea 2-1 in extra time in the final.

The U.S. also appeared in the 2012 and 2016 editions of the U-17 Women's Cup but was unable to advance out of the group stage.

The U.S. has an overall record of 5W-3D-4L, 29GF, 16GC at the U-17 Women's World Cup.

MEXICO

Mexico is the only team from CONCACAF to have finished first in the group stage round at a U-17 Women's World Cup. El Tricolor achieved that feat at the 2016 U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan when it claimed Group A with a 2-1-0 record (10GF, 2GC).

Mexico has appeared in four previous U-17 Women's World Cups, twice failing to advance out of the group stage and twice reaching the knockout stage, in 2014 and 2016.

At the 2014 U-17 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, Mexico finished second in Group D behind Nigeria with a 2-0-1 record (8GF, 3GC).

The quarterfinal round has not been as kind to Mexico. In 2014 El Tricolor were eliminated by Japan 2-0, and then two years later by Venezuela 2-1.

Mexico's overall record at the U-17 Women's World Cup is 6-1-7 (25GF, 32GC).

CANADA

Canada holds the distinction of being the only CONCACAF nation to have qualified for each six editions of the U-17 Women's World Cup, matching the accomplishments of Germany, Ghana, Japan, New Zealand and North Korea.

Three times Canada has reached the quarterfinals (2008, 2012, 2014), while twice it has been unable to advance from the group stage.

In the three times that Canada reached the knockout stage, it finished second in its group.

Canada's three defeats in the quarterfinals have come versus Germany (3-1 in 2008), North Korea (2-1 in 2012) and Venezuela (3-2 in 2014).

Canada's overall record at the U-17 Women's World Cup is 6-6-6, 17GF, 19GC.
