DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Mexico have punched their ticket to the 2022 FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup in India after downing Puerto Rico 5-0 in the semifinals of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship on Friday at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
It is the sixth time that Mexico have qualified for the U17 Women’s World Cup and now they will vie for CWU17 honors in Sunday’s Final.
Meanwhile, Puerto Rico will get a second chance at reaching the World Cup in Sunday’s Third Place Match.
Mexico raced out of the gates and held a 1-0 lead in the 5’ when Valerie Vargas cleaned up a loose ball in the Puerto Rico area and fired home a left-footed finish.
Three minutes later in the 8’ it was 2-0 with Alice Soto squeezing in a shot past Puerto Rico GK Ariana Anderson.
Layla Sirdah then extended the lead to 3-0 in the 24’ with a tidy left-footed finish, before Vargas notched her second of the day in the 29’ with a strong left-footed shot into the top shelf for a 4-0 advantage.
Mexico then capped things late in the second half, with Tatiana Flores slotting home a shot in the 83’ to complete the 5-0 score line.
