US, Costa Rica with prolific goal-scoring displays at CWU17

MIAMI, Florida The second matches in Group E and Group G at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship in the Dominican Republic saw the United States, Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua all collect victories.

Starting the day in Group E at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo was Nicaragua soaring to a 4-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago.

Four different players scored for the Pinoleras, with Adriana Munguia (3’), Daniela Manzanares (24’), Jenifer Sarantes (45+1’) and Stella Villalta (67’) all finding the back of the net.

In the nightcap in Group E, Mexico emerged as 7-0 winners over Panama.

Alice Soto (23’, 72’) and Valerie Vargas (66’, 82’) each had braces for El Tricolor, while Layla Sirdah (20’), Maribel Flores (31’) and Brenda Vega (89’) also etched their names onto the scoresheet.

The Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal was the site for the United States’ 13-0 win over Puerto Rico in Group G.

The star of the day for the North Americans was Amalia Villarreal, who scored five goals (11’, 39’, 57’, 60’, 61’). Not to be outdone was Claire Hutton (34’, 51’, 65’) notching a hat trick, Taylor Suarez (21’, 67’) bagging a brace and Lauren Martinho (6’), Nicollete Kiorpes (69’) and Nicola Fraser (84’) all scoring goals.

Rounding out the day’s action in the group was Costa Rica earning a 9-1 win versus Grenada.

It was actually the Caribbean side who struck first, as Melania Fullerton scored in the 21’ to give Grenada their first ever CWU17 goal.

However, it was all Costa Rica after that, as Marian Solano (24’, 37’), Tanisha Fonseca (58’, 61’) and Sara Ramirez (78’, 90+2’) had braces, while Sharon Lobo (27’), Jimena Jimenez (49’) and Ashly Gonzalez (74’) chipped in with scores.
