About
ABOUT THE CONCACAF UNDER-20 WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

The CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship is an official competition of the Confederation that crowns a champion and qualifies three teams to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Trinidad & Tobago will host the tournament for a second time, when it is contested entirely at Couva’s Ato Boldon Stadium from January 18-28, 2018.

Six of the eight teams have been confirmed: host Trinidad & Tobago; the North American trio of Canada, Mexico and the United States; plus Central America’s Costa Rica and Nicaragua.  The remaining two sides will be decided through the 2017 CONCACAF Caribbean Women’s Under-20 Qualifier finals to be disputed November 22-26 between host St. Kitts & Nevis, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Haiti.

In eight previous editions, the U.S. has won the CONCACAF U-20 women’s title a record five times, while Canada has lifted the trophy twice.  The inaugural championship in 2002 (a U-19 event that year and in 2004), also played in Trinidad & Tobago, did not determine a champion, but sent Mexico and the U.S. -- the final round group winners -- to the first-ever U-19 Women’s World Cup, which was hosted by Canada.

The U.S. is the four-time defending CONCACAF champion, defeating Canada, 1-0, in the 2015 final on Ashley Sanchez’s second-half goal.

Additionally, the Americans share with Germany the record for the most FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup titles, three each.
