SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic The 2023 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic has concluded following the 2-1 victory for Mexico over the United States in Sunday’s Final at the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo.

There were a number of standout performances over the two weeks at both the individual and collective levels, with the following players and teams earning top distinctions.

Fair Player Award: United States

Best Goalkeeper: Itzel Velasco, Mexico

Velasco was sensational throughout the whole tournament, appearing in four matches for Mexico, registering two clean sheets and conceding just two goals in helping El Tricolor win their second CWU20 crown. She also saved a penalty in Sunday’s Final.

Top Scorer, presented by Qatar Airways: Sheika Scott, Costa Rica

Scott started off the tournament with a bang, notching a hat trick in Costa Rica’s 7-3 win over Puerto Rico and she didn’t stop after that, finishing the tournament with six goals. Scott added another score in the 3-1 victory versus the Dominican Republic, before scoring in the semifinal defeat to the United States and again in the Third Place Match versus Canada.

Best Player Award, presented by Scotiabank: Alice Soto, Mexico

Soto was a mainstay for Mexico during the tournament, playing in all five matches and scoring a crucial goal in second half stoppage time against Canada in Mexico’s 2-1 semifinal win that secured their 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup ticket. Soto would deliver another top performance in the Final against the U.S. to help Mexico lift the trophy.
