MIAMI, Florida – The representatives from Concacaf for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will learn their group stage fate this Friday at the 2022 World Cup Draw in Doha, Qatar.
Qualified teams Canada, Mexico and the United States will find out who their rivals will be at this year’s World Cup, which kicks off on November 21.
The Concacaf representative in the Intercontinental Play-Offs, Costa Rica, will also discover which teams they would face in the group stage should the Central Americans defeat New Zealand in their single game playoff on either June 13 or 14 in Doha, Qatar.
Canada emerged through all three rounds of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying to qualify for their first World Cup since Mexico 1986.
The Canadians finished atop their group in the First Round with a perfect 4W-0D-0L record, before eliminating Haiti in the Second Round, 4-0 on aggregate.
Canada then clinched their first World Cup berth in 36 years by finishing in First-Place in the Third Round of CWCQ with a sparkling 8W-4D-2L record.
Mexico have qualified for their eighth consecutive World Cup by virtue of their Second-Place finish in the Third Round of CWCQ. El Tricolor collected a record of 8W-4D-2L to rubber-stamp their place in Qatar.
The U.S. return to the World Cup for the first time since Brazil 2014 after posting a 7W-4D-3L record in the Third Round of CWCQ, good for a Third-Place finish.
Costa Rica earned their spot in the Intercontinental Play-off thanks to a sensational close to CWCQ, earning six wins in their final seven matches to finish with a 7W-4D-3L record.
The Draw will see the 32 teams allocated into four different pots, with eight teams in each pot based on FIFA Rankings as of March 31. Host nation Qatar will automatically be placed into Pot 1, along with the next seven best-ranked teams.
Pot 4 will house the five lowest-ranked teams, the final team from the UEFA Playoffs and will include placeholders for the two Intercontinental Play-Off winners, which could potentially be Costa Rica.
Canada will be slotted into Pot 4, while both the U.S. and Mexico will be drawn from Pot 2.
With the exception of UEFA, teams from the same confederation cannot be drawn into the same group, meaning no two Concacaf teams will face each other in the group stage.
