AUSTIN, TEXAS.- A double from forward Ricardo Pepi lifted the United States to a 2-0 victory over Jamaica in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 on Thursday night at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The goals in the 49th minute and 62nd made 18-year-old Pepi the youngest-ever player to score goals in consecutive World Cup qualification matches for the U.S., as he followed up on a superb performance in the 4-1 U.S. victory over Honduras in San Pedro Sula in September.
His first goal broke a deadlock in the 49th minute, heading in a cross from Sergino Dest, who was able to get a ball in after good work from MF Yunus Musah.

In the 62nd minute, Pepi doubled the advantage by getting into the box and running onto a low ball from Brenden Aaronson and finishing with his first touch.

The U.S. didn’t let up after Pepi’s goals, with a pair of late chances via a connection between Timothy Weah and Gyasi Zardes to extend the lead. However, on the first opportunity, Jamaica GK Andre Blake was able to pull the ball into his chest just before it crossed the line, while the second one missed the target.
One of Jamaica’s best chances to score came in the 41st minute, when Jamal Lowe’s left-footed shot from outside the box drew Matt Turner into action, but the U.S. GK got down to his right to keep his clean sheet intact.
The win takes the U.S. to eight points from four matches, as the Stars and Stripes now head to Panama. Jamaica’s next contest is a home match against Canada. The Reggae Boyz will look to build on the point they’ve accumulated thus far.
