PACHUCA, Mexico – Pachuca announced Friday that seven members of its 2014 Liga MX Apertura roster will not be returning for the upcoming Clausura campaign.
The Tuzos finished the past season in seventh place with a 7W-4D-6L record and were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage of the playoffs by eventual runner-up Tigres.
Two of those leaving – Dario Carreño and Aviles Hurtado – contributed to Pachuca’s progression to the quarterfinals of the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League (CCL).
Carreño, who won two CCL titles with Monterrey, is headed to Tigres. The 26-year-old forward scored three goals in Group A play – all of them in a 7-3 win at Guatemala’s Municipal. He is currently the sixth-highest scorer in CCL history with 12 goals.
Despite appearing in 16 Apertura games and scoring two CCL goals, Hurtado will return for a second stint at Jaguares de Chiapas. He was originally purchased by Pachuca from Colombia’s Atletico Nacional in December 2012 and after playing 15 games in the 2013 Clausura, the Colombian was loaned to Jaguares for a year.
The other players departing the club are Matias Alustiza (forward, Puebla), Daniel Arreola (defender, Morelia), Hugo Rodriguez (defender, Tigres), Dieter Villalpando (midfielder, Tigres) and Jorge Villalpando (goalkeeper, Morelia).
Pachuca will host the Impact de Montreal in the opener of their quarterfinal series on February 24.
