PHILADELPHIA -- For only the sixth time in 13 CONCACAF Gold Cups, Jamaica and Mexico will meet in the 2015 final at Lincoln Financial Field at 7:30 p.m. ET Sunday. The Tricolor has won the five previous encounters. Here is a quick history of Mexico-Jamaica matches in the Gold Cup: June 28, 1991 (Los Angeles Coliseum – Los Angeles, California, USA) Mexico 4, Jamaica 1 Group stage: In the second-ever Gold Cup game, Mexico prevailed as Benjamin Galindo led the way, converting a penalty kick in each half. Galindo (28’) put the Tricolor ahead with a spot kick past goalkeeper Clive Smith, before teammate Luis Roberto Alves (38’) doubled the advantage. Roderick Reid (39’) halved the deficit only for Galindo (54’) to restore the two-goal cushion with another penalty. Carlos Hermosillo (58’) completed the scoreline shortly afterwards. July 22, 1993 (Estadio Azteca – Mexico City, Mexico) Mexico 6, Jamaica 1 Semifinals: Luis Miguel Salvador (9’, 18’, 34’) recorded a hat-trick within the opening 34 minutes as the host raced to a 4-1 halftime lead. Octavio Mora (14’), Luis Roberto Alves (50’) and Ignacio Ambriz (55’) each added a goal much to the delight of the 110,000 fans assembled at the Estadio Azteca. Hector Wright (17’) scored for the Reggae Boyz. After Mexico's final goal, Alejandro Garcia replaced Jorge Campos in the Mexican goal, giving the custodian an opportunity to finish the match as an attacker. February 12, 1998 (Los Angeles Coliseum – Los Angeles, California, USA) Jamaica 0, Mexico 1 (aet) Semifinals: In one of the most dramatic finishes in Gold Cup history, forward Luis Hernandez struck for the Golden Goal in the 105th minute -- the final minute of the first extra-time period. Hernandez would go on to score the only goal in the final, a 1-0 win over the United States. July 20, 2003 (Estadio Azteca – Mexico City, Mexico) Mexico 5, Jamaica 0 Quarterfinals: Five players found the back of the net for the Tricolor, which connected for two goals within a three-minute span late in the first half through Omar Bravo (38’) and Rafael Garcia (40’). Daniel Osorno (54’) made it 3-0, before Jared Borgetti (61’) and Juan Pablo Rodriguez (82’) closed Mexico’s goal account. July 11, 2005 (Reliant Stadium – Houston, Texas, USA) Mexico 1, Jamaica 0 Alberto Medina (19’) scored the only goal Mexico needed to clinch the Group C title in front of 45,311. Jamaica's Omar Daley was sent off in the 71st minute. Despite the defeat, the Reggae Boyz advanced to the quarterfinals as well.
