HOUSTON, Texas – The first of the four 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinals will kick off when Haiti takes on Canada on Saturday evening at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The Haitians arrive into the contest brimming with confidence after winning their Gold Cup group for the first time ever thanks to a perfect 3W-0D-0L mark in Group B against Bermuda, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
History will also be on the line for the Caribbean nation, who is seeking a first ever appearance in a Gold Cup semifinal.
Led by FW Duckens Nazon, Haiti is averaging two goals a game in the Gold Cup, but will come up against a Canadian side that is equally hungry for success.
Canada poured in a team record 12 goals in the group stage alone, surpassing its nine-goal haul from the 2007 Gold Cup when it reached the semifinals.
FWs Lucas Cavallini and Jonathan David teamed up to score nine goals to help Canada finish second in Group A, and became the first teammates to score hat tricks in a single Gold Cup match when they defeated Cuba 7-0 in their group finale.
