MIAMI, Florida – Mexico became the first team to secure a place in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinals after defeating Haiti 3-1 on Thursday night in Group B action at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Following the conclusion of the group stage, El Tricolor will continue their quest for a ninth Gold Cup crown at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas against an opponent to be determined later.

Here is the latest on the qualification scenarios for Groups A and B.

Group A

At present the United States lead the group but are level with Jamaica on four points through two matches. The U.S. currently holds the tiebreaker on goal difference with a difference of three goals.

Third place Trinidad and Tobago are just one point behind with three points and can qualify for the quarterfinals with a win versus the U.S. on Sunday in the group stage finale. Fourth place Saint Kitts and Nevis is eliminated and will face Jamaica.

The top two finishers in this group will advance to play in the quarterfinals on July 9 at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Group B

Mexico have confirmed a top two finish in Group B after claiming six points from their first two matches and have assured themselves a place in the quarterfinals on July 8 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Mexico will look to claim the top spot in Group B in their group stage finale versus Qatar, who have one point and can still advance to the knockout stage should they defeat Mexico on Sunday and Haiti either lose to Honduras by three goals or fewer or if Haiti and Honduras play to a draw and Qatar has a superior goal difference versus Haiti.

Haiti can reach the quarterfinals with a win on Sunday in their group stage finale against Honduras or with a draw coupled with either a Mexico win or draw versus Qatar.
