LOS ANGELES, California – For his exceptional performance throughout the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, Panama MF Adalberto Carrasquilla has earned the Best Player Award.
The midfielder appeared in all six matches for the Canaleros, leading the side to their third Gold Cup Final.
Carrasquilla performed at a top level in all stages of the tournament. The 24-year-old Houston Dynamo man had seven steals and one clearance in Panama’s three group stage matches, helping the team claim the top spot in Group C.
In the 4-0 quarterfinal win versus Qatar, Carrasquilla had an assist and a steal, and then supplied another assist and three steals in the semifinals against the United States. Carrasquilla also converted the decisive penalty in the 5-4 penalty shootout win following the team’s 1-1 draw.
Carrasquilla then completed his Gold Cup in the Final with another three steals and 38 of 47 passes completed.
Carrasquilla is the second Panamanian to be named Best Player at a Gold Cup, following in the footsteps of Luis Tejada in 2005.
