MIAMI, Florida – The 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims kick off this Friday with Haiti and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines meeting in the First Round at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
While the all-time series favors Haiti, who have a 4W-1D-0L record against Vincy Heat, taking a step toward reaching their eighth Gold Cup group stage is no sure thing for Les Grenadiers.
Standing in the way will be a Saint Vincent and the Grenadines side led by inspirational FW Cornelius Stewart, who has 18 international goals and 47 caps for his country, and Azinho Solomon, who has 25 caps and scored one of his nation’s goals in a 3-0 win over British Virgin Islands in CWCQ.
Vincy Heat will also be keen to deliver some cheer to their fans after what has been a difficult
spring back home after the eruption of stratovolcano La Soufriere last April forced the
evacuation of many Saint Vincent and the Grenadines residents.
Meanwhile, Haiti are looking to regroup after being eliminated by Canada in the Second Round
of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022.
Helping Haiti’s cause will be the presence of many of the same players who helped Haiti reach the semifinals of the 2019 edition, including FWs Duckens Nazon and Frantzdy Pierrot, who each had two goals in the 2019 Gold Cup.
Haiti will also be boosted by a strong midfield, with key members Derrick Etienne Jr. and Steeven Saba, plus defensive lynchpin Carles Arcus of French side Auxerre.
