USA’s Dempsey wins Golden Boot award
PHILADELPHIA – The USA’s Clint Dempsey captured the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup’s Golden Boot award, finishing as the top scorer, netting seven of his team’s 12 goals.
The Seattle Sounders star amassed one more than Mexico’s Andres Guardado, who scored once in a 3-1 win over Jamaica in Sunday’s final at Lincoln Financial Field.
Dempsey netted in four of the USA’s six matches, notching a hat-trick in a 6-0 quarterfinal win over Cuba. In Saturday’s match for third place, he came off the bench in the second half and tallied for the equalizer 10 minutes later.
It is the sixth time in 13 Gold Cups that an American has won or shared the honor.
