Position Title: Director of Communications

Concacaf serves as the governing body of football in this part of the world. It is composed of 41 national associations united by the passion for football, from Canada and the United States in the north to Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana in the south.

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Communications develops, manages, and implements all aspects of the confederation’s communication strategies, including, but not limited to Football, Sports Industry, Corporate, Political and Social Responsibility areas. The position requires constant interaction with the President, General Secretariat, all functional departments of the confederation, as well as clubs, national teams, and football federations from around the region.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the overall communications strategy of the Confederation
- Develop, along with President, General Secretary and Senior Management the confederation’s key position messages as necessary
- Possess a solid understanding of the global football landscape and advice senior leadership of important developments in the industry that affect the Confederation’s business
- Oversee the Corporate Communications, PR, and Media Operations departments
- Ensure a seamless service to media members at all Confederation’s event
- Maintain and enhance all media relations aspects of the confederation
- Prepare and maintain the confederation’s crisis management plan
- Oversee the production of official press releases that cover all aspects of the confederation’s business
- Identify and curate content ideas for media and broadcast consumption
- Manage the planning and implementation of all aspects of the Confederation’s press conferences
- Perform the duties of a Confederation spokesperson
- Develop and manage the department’s budget
- Responsible for the timely production of background papers and briefs for senior management
- Develop Public Relations strategies for key events, including Gold Cup, Nations League and Champions League
- Quickly establish credibility throughout the organization and with stakeholders as an expert in the Concacaf history and communications
- Travel to Confederation events to manage all communication strategy implementation
- Obtain a good understanding of the company's objectives, mission and vision and pro-activeness in generating new ideas for effective communications
- Responsible for developing a monthly report for senior management on all media monitoring reports
- Cultivate local influencer network to promote the Confederation in organic ways
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Bachelor's degree; ideally in communications, journalism, or related field.
- +8 years of work experience in communications or a related field in the Football Industry.
- Multiple years of experience dealing with agencies in the sports/entertainment PR/Communications
- Extensive experience in public speaking roles
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills is essential (shortlisted candidates may be required to undertake a written exercise)
- High-level proficiency in one other Concacaf language (Spanish, French or Dutch) will be considered a major plus
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with others both inside and outside of the confederation is a must
- Ability to create storylines and pitch them to media outlets and to manage and interact with media members
- Proven success in crisis management and ability to solve issues in a multicultural environment
- Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and with the ability to prioritize is essential.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while working as both part of a team as well as independently
- Proven supervisory experience with the ability to hire, manage and mentor staff
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) is required
- P&L management and strong analytical skills
- Candidates must have the flexibility to travel nationally and internationally to perform their duties. Approximate travel requirement: 40%.
Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules including game nights to reflect the business needs of the company.
