PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti– The Haitian National Team is eager to get its 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying campaign up and running.
Les Grenadiers were last in action on May 29 in an international friendly versus Argentina which ended 4-0 in favor of the South Americans.
Now three months later, Haiti is looking to get ramped up quickly for its CNL opener on September 10 versus Sint Maarten.
“I think everyone feels ready and excited with the start of the Nations League,” said Haiti MF Fabien Vorbe in an exclusive interview with Concacaf.com
“We want to show our fans that we are ready to make them vibrate again,” added Vorbe.
One hurdle that Haiti will have to overcome is the match-ready fitness of some of its squad members.
“All of our players are not at the same level as far as game fitness. Some of our players have just started their seasons, others are in off season and are just now starting to train, while others are about to start their league. But I think the fact that we get Sint Maarten at home is a positive and that we will still be able to go out there and get a favorable result,” said Vorbe.
In addition to Sint Maarten, Haiti will face Saint Lucia (Oct. 13) and Nicaragua (Nov. 17) away, while wrapping up qualifying at home against Cuba (Mar. 24).
Vorbe feels like a top-10 finish is within reach for Haiti, meaning a spot in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, which would be Haiti’s seventh Gold Cup appearance.
“The Gold Cup is our goal and I honestly feel that it’s well within our reach, with the group of players we have and our coaching staff. If we do what we are supposed to do, stay focus for each and every game, I don’t see why Haiti wouldn’t be present for the next Gold Cup!” concluded Vorbe.
