THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- Anguilla will host Puerto Rico on Tuesday night in The Valley in a League C Group C clash that may not have an impact on who wins the group, but is definitely of great importance to both sides.
Guatemala are in the clear to win promotion to League B, but for two teams that are still searching for their first Nations League victory, that’s not a reason to take the day off.
Anguilla suffered a 5-0 defeat against Guatemala in The Valley on Saturday, but looked dramatically better than they did in Guatemala City in September.
The Dolphins’ biggest success was their revamped offside trap, with which they caught Guatemala eight times in total and chalked off three would-be goals.
Puerto Rico, who also lost 5-0 to Los Chapines in their most recent match, are looking for their first road win since 2016, when they beat none other than Anguilla at this very stadium 4-0.
But goals have been hard to come by recently, and besides Gerald Diaz’s strike in a friendly against Hartford Athletic, Puerto Rico haven’t scored since the start of the Nations League qualifying round.
A win for either side would be a big first step towards building a better football program and getting ready to compete at higher levels of play.
