Anguilla seeking first Nations League win over Saint Lucia

THE VALLEY, Anguilla – In League C Group C, Saint Lucia return to action as they visit the Raymond E. Guishard Stadium in The Valley on Friday for a rematch with Anguilla.

Saint Lucia have already earned the promotion to League B and have booked their trip to the 2023 Gold Cup Prelims later this summer on the back of a 1-0 win away to Dominica and a 2-0 victory over Anguilla at home.

Led by captain and veteran left back Kurt Frederick, the longtime stalwart of the Saint Lucia defense has also notched goals in recent matches against Anguilla last summer, as well as in a friendly win over San Marino in November.

Anguilla may be eliminated from contention, but they still have a lot to play for. Having already accrued their first two points in Nations League history last summer thanks to a pair of draws with Dominica, Anguilla will be looking to notch their first ever win this Friday.

Those draws were made possible thanks to heroic performances from young goalkeeper Danniell Bailey and no-nonsense defending from players like Luke Paris.

Adding intrigue to the affair is the fact that former Anguilla coach and Trinidad football legend Stern John is now leading Saint Lucia. Between that and the already strong desire to see a historic victory on home soil, fans can expect a lively contest and atmosphere.

A win or draw would put Anguilla in second place, which would be an achievement in its own right and a sign of continued progress over recent years. Saint Lucia have already secured first place regardless of future outcomes.
