Antigua and Barbuda out to finish strong against Aruba

Published on

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao – Aruba hosts Antigua and Barbuda in Group C of League B action in the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League on Monday at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao.

Aruba have been relegated to League C for the next CNL tournament after losing 4-2 at Guyana on Friday. Winless in their first five matches, the Aruba national team will look to leave League B with a positive result.

Antigua and Barbuda have had a more up and down road through their five CNL matches – losing their first, winning their next two before succumbing to a two-match losing streak.

The Benna Boys may still finish second – and secure a spot in the first round of qualifying for the 2021 Gold Cup - with a lopsided win and a sizable Guyana loss to Jamaica, with 12 goals being the difference at present.

Antigua and Barbuda won the last encounter, 2-1, with goals from D'Andre Bishop and Tevaughn Harriette in the second fixture of the CNL group stage. Terence Groothusen was the lone scorer for Aruba, his only goal of the tournament to date.

The last meeting in which Aruba was the home team against Antigua and Barbuda was on February 6, 2008 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier for South Africa 2010. Antigua and Barbuda took that encounter with a 3-0 win.
