League B continues in the 2023–24 Concacaf Nations League with two matches on Monday in Group B as the Dominican Republic hosts Montserrat and Nicaragua welcomes Barbados.
Montserrat and Nicaragua won as away sides in the first round of games and hope to increase their lead atop the group. The Dominican Republic plays at home for a consecutive occasion, while Barbados goes away for the first time in this campaign.
Dominican Republic vs. Montserrat
The Dominican Republic hosts Montserrat at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This will mark a second consecutive home encounter for the Dominican Republic, who suffered a 2-0 loss in their opening match with Nicaragua. Offensively, the Dominicans generated 22 opportunities, including 12 on target, but they were denied on the night and will look to raise their effectiveness
Montserrat took a last minute 3-2 victory at Barbados thanks to a brace from Lyle Taylor. After taking an early lead, Barbados scored twice, but the Emerald Boys equalized and sealed a victory with a stoppage time free kick.
It will mark the fifth all-time meeting, with Dominican Republic leading the series two wins to one and one draw. The two faced off in the 2019–20 CNL with Montserrat taking a point in Santo Domingo.
Nicaragua vs. Barbados
Nicaragua welcomes Barbados at the National Football Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.
A 2-0 win at the Dominican Republic has Nicaragua as the early leader in the group. Matías Moldskred Belli scored the game-winning goal to kick off the team’s campaign and tie Byron Bonilla as the nation’s all-time scorer in the competition.
Barbados will look for redemption after losing 3-2 against Montserrat. Elijah Downey and Thierry Gale had the nation on route to its first three points until a Montserrat comeback derailed a potential good start.
This will be only the third meeting between the two, who have split victories in past encounters. Barbados is looking for its first victory against Nicaragua in 49 years. The team’s most recent meeting came in 2019–20 CONCACAF Nations League Qualifying when Nicaragua took a 1-0 win in Barbados.
