Cayman Islands eyes rally in League C closing stretch

MIAMI – One group winner is still to be decided in League C as the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continues on Saturday.

Barbados and Belize sealed their standing as the first-place teams in Groups A and B respectively. The top seed in Group C is still to be decided but the Cayman Islands will need a victory to keep its hopes alive.

Cayman Islands vs. British Virgin Islands 

The Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands meet in Group C at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Saint Kitts and Nevis leads the group with nine points but could clinch first place if this encounter ends in a draw or a victory for the British Virgin Islands. Kristian Javier Samuel scored for the British Virgin Islands in a 3-1 loss to Saint Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday and will seek to score again with hopes for the Play-In round still at play.

With two matches to play, the Cayman Islands can still make a race to the top of the group but needs a victory on Saturday. Jonah Ebanks is the nation’s top CNL scorer with four goals.

Elijah Seymour scored the lone goal when the two sides met on the League C opening matchday in September. The Cayman Islands victory marked the first for either side in CNL play after both previously played to two draws. Additionally, the Cayman Islands are undefeated in seven all-time encounters.

The Bahamas vs. U.S. Virgin Islands

The Bahamas face off against the U.S. Virgin Islands in Group A at the Wildey Astro Turf Stadium in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The U.S.V.I. are in search of its first victory of the campaign. The nation also seeks to rebound from a 5-nil loss to group winners Barbados on Wednesday.

The two sides played to a thrilling 3-3 draw as part of the first CNL matchday in September. Lesly St Fleur, Wood Julmis, and Brandon Adderley scored for the Bahamas while Naqwan Henry, Rakeem Joseph, and Gabriel Catone-Highfield responded for the U.S.V.I.

Turks and Caicos Islands vs. Anguilla

 Turks and Caicos Islands meet Anguilla in Group B at FFB Stadium in Belmopan, Belize.

Anguilla is coming off a 1-nil defeat to group winners Belize. Jelanie Lawrence stood out with 10 saves in Wednesday’s encounter.

Two sides met in September to open the new CNL campaign in a 2-nil victory for Anguilla. Germain Hughes and Lamar Carpenter scored to give the nation a three-point start.

Junior Paul also stood out in the recent encounter against Anguilla as the player with the most passes (69), with an 86% accuracy, and two shots in the previous matches of the current tournament. Billy Forbes is the all-time scorer for Turks and Caicos Islands with 10 goals.
