Costa Rica set to be in good hands with Navas at CNL Finals

MIAMI, Florida Costa Rica GK Keylor Navas is one of the most decorated players in Concacaf history and now the Ticos’ main shot-stopper is set to try to win another trophy after being named to Costa Rica’s provisional roster for the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League Finals next month in Denver, Colorado.

A winner of three UEFA Champions League titles as a member of legendary Spanish club Real Madrid and a runner-up in the 2019-20 edition with French giants Paris Saint-Germain, Navas will be aiming to win his first Concacaf trophy at the national team level.

Navas stands to have plenty of familiar company on the field, including 35-year-old attacking MF Bryan Ruiz, who along with Navas was a key member of the Costa Rica side that reached the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals.

After a long spell in Europe, Ruiz returned to boyhood club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and helped the side win the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League. Since returning to Alajuelense, Ruiz has seven goals in 41 matches.

FW Joel Campbell is also back in the mix for a spot on the final roster. For years, the 28-year-old has been one of the most feared strikers in the Concacaf region and over the course of the last year he has become an integral part of Club Leon of Liga MX, with 38 appearances, while also helping the club win the 2020 Liga MX Apertura.

There is plenty of bright young talent on the Costa Rica roster as well, including FW Manfred Ugalde, who tallied 17 goals in 50 games for Deportivo Saprissa in all competitions before joining Belgian side Lommel. The 18-year-old has thrived in European football as well, with 11 goals in 22 matches.

Costa Rica also have great promise in defense in the form of center back Fernan Faerron. Not only did the 20-year-old DF help Alajuelense claim the 2020 SCL, but he was also named to the tournament Best XI and won the Best Young Player award.
